Johnston patrolwoman arrested in Warwick

A Johnston Police patrolwoman was arrested in Warwick on Monday and charged with breaking and entering a home on Byron Boulevard.

In a press release on Wednesday, Det. Capt. Robert Nelson said Warwick Police went to 53 Byron Blvd. around 5:17 p.m. for a report of a disturbance. Residents there told police a male and female entered the house demanding money over an alleged drug transaction that took place over a week ago. The residents also said that the female began ransacking the house and threatening the occupants. During this confrontation, the female struck the face of a 17-year-old girl who came to her parents’ aid.

Colonel Stephen McCartney of the Warwick Police clarified the initial press release by saying the suspects were arrested later that day after they came into Warwick headquarters at the request of the Johnston Police.

The female suspect was later identified as Marisa Ciccone, 24, of Johnston. She was charged with breaking and entering, simple assault and battery and disorderly conduct. Ciccone was later identified as a probationary member of the Johnston Police Department who was sworn in on Dec. 12 of last year.

The male suspect was identified as James Fortin, 44, of Warren who was charged with breaking and entering. They were both arraigned before the bail commissioner and scheduled to appear on Sept. 16.

Johnston Police Chief Richard S. Tamburini said he is waiting for the conclusion of the Warwick investigation before he takes any specific disciplinary action.

“Right now, this is all preliminary and we want to know more,” said Tamburini.

Tamburini said Rhode Island’s Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights does not apply in this case.

The investigation continues and is being handled by Warwick detectives. Tamburini said they would be reviewing Ciccone’s application to the Johnston Police Department to see if there was any misrepresentation involved.

Great...Another red letter day for Johnston. Let me guess, she got a push to get on the force from a relative? Could it be Sen. Frank Ciccone another fine example of character and honesty? It never seems to end in this State. Imagine the applicants that were passed over to create a slot for this dirt bag.
