Even though Jonathan Soto couldn’t secure a state title during the winter, he still had a memorable senior season.
Soto was the top seed out of the 138-pound bracket at the state championships at Providence Career and Technical Academy, and he didn’t disappoint, cruising past his opponents in the early rounds.
He eventually earned a berth in the title match that evening, where he met No. 2 seed Devin Rivet out of Bishop Hendricken, a wrestler he didn’t face during the regular season.
Unfortunately for Soto, Rivet, a sophomore, would take the crown with a 4-1 decision.
But even with the loss, Soto’s second-place finish was more than good enough to secure himself a spot at New Englands.
