Jones leaving Thundermist, search to start for successor

Thundermist Health Center has announced that president and CEO Charles T. Jones will leave his position effective February 22, 2017.

“It has been a great privilege to have the opportunity to lead Thundermist and to work with such a committed group of employees who care so deeply about Thundermist, our patients and communities,” Jones said in a statement. “My work at Thundermist and with our community partners has provided me with the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career.”

Tim Henry, Ph.D, Chair of the Thundermist Board of Directors, said, “Chuck came to Thundermist eight years ago with a desire to learn about and work in community health. During his time with us, he has far exceeded expectations in his contributions to our communities, the state and, most importantly, to Thundermist. He is leaving Thundermist financially strong, operationally sound and well positioned in the healthcare environment.”

Jones joined Thundermist in 2008 as the chief information officer. In 2011 Jones assumed the role of president and CEO. During his tenure, Jones continued Thundermist’s growth through numerous facility and program expansions in each of its communities, including the completion of a new health center in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Under Jones’ leadership, Thundermist was recognized as a leader in delivering high quality care, earning National Quality Leader designation in 2016 from the Health Resources and Services Administration and being named Million Hearts Champion from the Centers for Disease Control.

Jones has been an active voice in the community, contributing to government and non-profit work. He served as a member of Governor Raimondo’s Reinventing Medicaid Commission, and on the RI Healthcare Reform Commission. He is an active member of many boards of directors, including Neighborhood Health Plan of RI, Rhode Island Health Center Association, and Rhode Island Quality Institute. He is also a Trustee of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council and a member of the RI Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner’s Advanced Payment Methodology Committee.

Upon leaving Thundermist, Jones will be taking over as CEO at Harbor Health Services, Inc., a community health agency based in Dorchester, Mass.

Thundermist’s board will be forming a search committee and engaging the services of a professional search firm to conduct a nationwide search for Jones’ replacement.
