Karin E. McGiveron, 66 of Jacksonville (formerly of Warwick, RI) passed away peacefully on June 7, 2015 after an eighteen month battle with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Agnes (Carlson) and Herman Hagenstein and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hagenstein. Karin is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 43 years, John F. McGiveron, sons; Mark A. McGiveron (Lynn) of Jacksonville and Michael J. McGiveron (Ally) of Johnston, RI., grandchildren; Andrew and Lindsay McGiveron, brother, Carl Hagenstein (Joyce) of Exeter, RI., nephews, Erik Hagenstein, Stephen Hagenstein, and Paul Hagenstein, cousin, Richard Carlson (Linda), Sonja Howe, and Allan Nystrand, and numerous friends.

Karin was the matriarch of the family, always putting other’s needs first and encouraging children. That love guided her career path. She unselfishly devoted 33 years to John Brown Francis Elementary School as a teacher. Karin loved being with family, friends, and her students. She was an avid golfer. After retirement in 2001, Karin was the President of North Kingstown Ladies Golf League for several years. Karin then became a grandmother. She loved spending time with the grandchildren and volunteering at San Pablo Elementary School. Karin will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 11:00 at the Greenwood Community Church located at 805 Main Ave., Warwick, RI 02886.

In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Contribution can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphomas Society at www.lls.org , Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at www.jdrf.org , or the Special Olympics Rhode Island at www.specialpolmpicsri.org Arrangements under the care of Integrity Cremations.
