Kenneth J. Dorney, 91, a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 38 years, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the loving husband of the late Hannah E. (Kindley) Dorney.

He was a son of the late John and Josephine (Harris) Dorney. Mr. Dorney was a World War II Army veteran serving in the South Pacific, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church for over 50 years and was also active in many local Masonic lodges. He was a member of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers, Branch 3166, charter member of the Warwick Post Office Credit Union, a parish treasurer, usher and served of the Vestry, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, member of the Nathanael Greene #45 and Daylight Lodge #48 where he served as Master. Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Doric Council #7 and Past Grand Thrice Illustrious Grand Master of the State of RI, Past High Priest of Harmony Chapter #15 and Past Grand High Priest of the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of the State of RI.

He was a member of Daylight Chapter in Washington County, where he worked on the monthly breakfasts. He was a Sir Knight of Thomas Smith Webb Commandery, now joined with St. John’s Commandery and served as Commander, member of Plantations #80, Red Cross of Constantine and served as Puissant Sovereign, member of Masonic Veterans Assoc. and Moslem Grotto, MOVPER What Cheer York Rite College #43 and elected to membership in Roger Williams Priory, York Cross of Honor. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Prov., Scottish Rite and a Noble, Rhode Island Shriners, member of Sword of Bunker Hill Gaspee Order #99 and past president of Narragansett Bay Chapter, National Sojourners. In 1982, Mr. Dorney was honored by Sachem Chief Silver Cloud, who made him an honorary Chief among the Seneca Tribe of six Indian Nations (Iroquois).

He was the brother of the late John Dorney and Jessie Paquette.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick, RI. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
