The Wound Recovery and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Kent Hospital has achieved accreditation with distinction from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) for the second time since 2009. It is the only accredited center in the state of Rhode Island. The UHMS clinical hyperbaric medicine facility accreditation program recognizes hyperbaric facilities that demonstrate their commitment to patient care and facility safety.
The survey, which took place in September, involved a survey team consisting of a hyperbaric-credentialed physician, nurse and technician, who examined the facility’s staffing and training, equipment installation, operation, maintenance, patient safety and standards of care. Fewer than 20 percent of centers across the country receive accreditation “with distinction.”
“Achieving accreditation with distinction sets the Wound Recovery and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Kent apart from many of the other centers throughout the country,” Sandra Coletta, COO Care New England, president and CEO of Kent Hospital, said in a statement. “This accreditation shows that our center is committed to providing exceptional patient care not only in our community, but throughout the region.”
The Wound Recovery and Hyperbaric Medicine Center at Kent is a unique regional referral center, offering advanced wound care, treatment for diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds, ostomy problems and other chronic concerns. The center cares for patients throughout New England and is housed on the Kent Hospital grounds. Its advanced hyperbaric oxygen chambers are available 24 hours a day for emergency referrals needing immediate intervention. It is the only 24-7 hyperbaric medicine facility outside of Boston.
