Candis Kowalik, who was a three-time all-around gymnastics champion at Warwick Vets, is now compiling accolades at the college ranks.
Kowalik, a freshman at SUNY Brockport, claimed the Division III national championship in the beam with a score of 9.850 last weekend, edging Ursinus College’s Amanda Palladino (9.825). Her floor routine also impressed, as Kowalik claimed fourth in that event with a score of 9.80.
She would earn First Team All-American honors in both events.
Her score of 9.475 in the vault was also good enough to place her 15th in D-III.
Kowalik was a big reason why Brockport took second at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship, as the team posted a score of 193, falling just shy of first-place Wisconsin-La Crosse, which finished with a mark of 193.65.
