Kristen Hahn can’t wait to come back to Rhode Island. Not only will she have a chance to visit family members, she’ll also be able to visit her cousin’s restaurant, Spike’s, the gourmet hot dog establishment with locations in Warwick and Cranston.

“He has the best hot dogs, and I can’t wait to have them,” she told me from her hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she is starring in the 2014 Tony Award Winning Best Musical, “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.” Hahn plays Phoebe D’Ysquith, one of the two leading ladies in the musical comedy about a distant heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by eliminating eight relatives (all played by the same actor) who stand in his way.

My daughter saw the play on Broadway and loved it.

Hahn, a Connecticut native and Carnegie Mellon graduate, understudied five roles in the Broadway production, including Phoebe, while also being in the ensemble.

“It has been a lovely experience,” she said. “I stand backstage when I’m off and laugh at my castmates. It is truly hysterical. The music is brilliant, and there’s something for everyone in the show.”

At PPAC, December 6-11. Call 421-ARTS for reservations and information.
