Kurt L. Businger, 79 passed away on January 28, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was the son of the late Frederik and Agnes Businger of Switzerland. He was born in Switzerland and came to RI to work as an engineer for Brown and Sharpe. He then started his own business, Centerline Precision Manufacturing where he was President and partner. He finished his career at GTECH where he was the author of many technical patents. Caring, generous, smart, he was an inventor, creator and could fix anything. He was an avid gardener and a master woodworker. His handiwork is visible everywhere in his and his family’s homes. He loved classical music, anything related to science, loved to read and enjoy a nice cigar in his gazebo in the summer.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Helen (Nellen) Businger; his daughter Irene Meleleu and her husband Dan of Cumberland, his son Daniel and his wife Joelle of McLean, Virginia; and his two beautiful granddaughters Rachael Meleleu and Hannah Businger. He is also survived by his two brothers Hugo Businger and Earnst Businger of Luzern, Switzerland. He was predeceased by his son Andrew Businger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Church, 596 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private.
