(Charming little film about relationships)

Patricia Clarkson stars as Wendy, an insecure woman going through a breakup in her marriage of 21 years. Her daughter (Grace Gummer) nags her to learn how to drive so she can visit her in her commune and also gain some form of independence.

Wendy takes lessons from Darwan (Ben Kingsley), a part-time cab driver/driving instructor. The two people couldn’t be more different.

Darwan is a peaceful man, full of metaphors and -isms, living with the prejudices toward the Sikh in New York City. He is about to enter an arranged marriage with an introverted woman who can’t read and comes from a completely different culture.

Wendy and Darwan slowly become friends as they drive through the streets of New York, each learning a bit about life from each other.

The movie is one big metaphor on life, made better by the performances of Clarkson and Kingsley, who truly connect on an emotional and spiritual level. There is even a hint that there might have been more.

Rated a gentle R, with some profanity and sexual references.
