In a release issued last week, Congressman Jim Langevin warned Rhode Islanders about the threat of scam artists this tax season. Langevin’s office has received multiple calls from constituents who have been contacted by criminals posing as representatives of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). These scammers claim that the taxpayer owes money and is at risk of being sued or even arrested.
“I want all Rhode Islanders to know that the IRS will never call you to make these kinds of claims or to ask for personal or financial information,” Langevin said in a statement. “These criminals are preying on the fears of well-intentioned, hardworking individuals – and seniors, in particular – who are committed to paying their taxes on time and without incident. Do not fall victim to these scams, and if you ever have any doubts about the validity of such claims, please reach out to my office.”
Rhode Islanders who have received these types of calls can call Congressman Langevin’s office at 732-9400.

Langevin is a bigger scam than anyone who could pretend to call from the IRS.
