Lebanese Festival celebrates success in third year

Posted

As the Rev. Edward T. Nedder made his way from table to table underneath the “Big Top” last Saturday afternoon in Cranston, the smiles on people’s faces seemed to grow wider and wider.

Nedder spent lots of time thanking dozens of proud parishioners – and countless guests – for coming to St. George Maronite Catholic Church’s third annual Lebanese Festival, which featured three straight days of fun, food and fellowship.

Then on Sunday evening, when the last of the baked kibbee, grilled kabobs, falafel and other food items were served, St. George Maronite’s army of dedicated volunteers were all smiles after receiving rave reviews about the three-day event.

“This is always a great event,” said Joseph Solomon, a Warwick City Council member whose cousin, Peter Solomon, was among the dozens of volunteers who worked this year’s Lebanese Festival. “I love the food, and it’s obvious hours and hours of planning went to into this festival.”

And perhaps that’s why Tony Simon, a committee member who also handled some publicity for the event, was excited about last Friday evening for the largest crowd to ever turn out on opening night.

“The parish is grateful to the thousands of people who attended this year’s Lebanese Festival,” Simon said. “Every year the festival continues to grow due to the support from the community, our sponsors, and the amazing volunteers who work so hard to make it happen.”

In keeping with tradition, last weekend’s festival also featured live entertainment, raffles and games for children.
