To the Editor:

As 2016 draws to a close, I want to thank the voters of District 15 for placing their confidence and trust in me. Serving you in the House of Representatives is a privilege and an honor.

After a hard fought campaign, I am returning to the State House with a strong sense of the issues affecting our daily lives in Cranston. You deserve the credit for this. Many of you took the time to share your concerns with me on your doorstep, over the phone, and via email this fall. These conversations will now develop into policies and initiatives to move our state forward in 2017.

Atop this list is eliminating the car tax over the next five years. I heard about this burden at nearly every home. The car tax hamstrings household budgets and stifles prosperity across our state. You can expect meaningful relief in the New Year.

Many of you also spoke to me about the need to continue to improve our state's economy. We will continue to be laser focused on creating well-paying jobs, reducing the cost of business, and making Rhode Island more regionally competitive. Our work has already garnered significant investment from Fortune 500 companies, including General Electric and Johnson & Johnson.

My conversations with the voters during the campaign were positive and constructive. As a result, I am heading into the New Year better prepared and more optimistic to address the issues facing District 15 and Rhode Island. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support.

Nick Mattiello

House Speaker
