Lineup of high school graduations starts Friday

The next three weeks will be busy for graduating high school seniors across the state.

The first of the Warwick high school graduations are Friday, when 243 students at the all-boys Catholic school Bishop Hendricken receive diplomas at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Providence.

Kevin Madoian, this year’s valedictorian, will address his classmates, as tradition dictates. The salutatorian, Tyler S. Williams, will also speak, in addition to the Man of the Year and class president, Patrick Flanagan. This graduating class has three National Merit Finalists (Patrick Flanagan, Patrick Kennedy and Daniel Kim) and had students accepted into prestigious colleges including the University of Virginia, Notre Dame, Brown, New York University and Boston College. Scholarships awarded seniors totals $28.7 million.

The Vincent A. Cullen Field House at the CCRI Knight campus is the site for the three Warwick public high school graduations. The first in the lineup is Pilgrim at 6 p.m. on June 16.

A total of 234 seniors, including students who will be attending such prestigious schools as Brown University and the Berklee School of Music, will walk across the stage. Valedictorian Nicole Gauthier will speak at the ceremonies, as she finished top in the class. Salutatorian Justine Pollard will also address the class, in addition to the mayor, who will address all three public high school graduations.

Approximately 200 Toll Gate seniors will graduate on June 17 at 6 p.m. Dongeun Seung will speak as a part of the ceremonies, as she was this year’s class valedictorian. Other speakers include salutatorian Abby Gregory and Beth Furtado, who will represent the School Committee.

Warwick Veterans seniors numbering 198 will cross the stage on June 18 at graduation ceremonies starting at 6 p.m. This year’s valedictorian, Christopher Defreitas, will speak at the event. In addition, the mayor, salutatorian Sarah Grace Plante and Superintendent Richard D’Agostino are also expected to speak.

Rocky Hill School graduation will be held June 12 at 10 a.m. at the school. A total of 30 diplomas will be awarded. Brady Dill of Greene is class valedictorian. Others giving speeches will be Shane Woolley who is the Class of 2015 alumni president, in addition to this year’s commencement speaker, David Dooley, president of the University of Rhode Island. Both Dill and Woolley are National Merit Scholar finalists.
