The award-winning Rhode Island Youth Theatre is presenting “The Wiz” at North Kingstown High School this Friday, July 18, and Saturday, July 19, at 7 p.m.  Starring 70 students from 21 towns across the state, this show is complete with a full orchestra.

Two performers in the show, cousins Michaela Vieira, 15, and Natalya Martin, 9, are Cranston residents.  Michaela is a rising sophomore at Bay View Academy where she is on the softball team, and is involved in chorus, orchestra, and theatre. She hopes to major in nursing and minor in musical theatre when she goes to college in a few years. Michaela will be playing the Tin Man, while Natalya, who is going into the fourth grade at Immaculate Conception, will be playing a Poppy and a Winkie.

Three staff members are also from Cranston:  Rob Millerick (director/choreographer) Liz Paolella (stage manager) and Adam Ramsey (production/lighting manager). All three graduated from Cranston High School West: Rob in 2010, Adam in 2011, and Liz in 2014.

Adam and Liz both attend Rhode Island College, Adam for technical theatre and Liz for secondary education (social studies).  Rob just graduated from Manhattanville College, and will be leaving in a few weeks to intern at Disney World. He plans on auditioning to be a character look-alike when his six-month internship is complete.

Come see what this great cast and crew have put together this Friday and Saturday. Tickets are available at riyt.org and at the door for $18.
