Local youngsters hit big screen in ‘American Hustle’

Three youngsters from Cranston have made their big-screen debut this holiday season, appearing in the new film “American Hustle.”

Twins Danny and Sonny Corbo and their brother, Frankie – all students at Stadium Elementary School – took part in filming in May in Massachusetts, said their parents Liza and Al Corbo.

Liza said the family responded to a casting notice after learning a film production was looking for twins around the age of Danny and Sonny, who are 6. They did it for fun, she said, and the boys were all interested in the opportunity.

“They all wanted to pursue it,” said Liza.

Danny and Sonny have several appearances in the film while jointly playing the part of Danny Rosenfeld, the son of the characters played by Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence. Frankie, who turned 8 on Dec. 21, appears during a scene filmed at an elementary school.

During the production, Al said the boys got a taste of Hollywood, receiving their own trailer and a tutor. The family also hired an agent for them.

“They were treated like stars,” he said.

The Corbos said they are unsure if the boys will pursue other acting opportunities, but the experience was a positive one. And while the youngsters are eager to see their work on screen, Liza said Danny, Sonny and Frankie will have to wait a bit to view the R-rated film.

“We’re going to have to wait till the DVD,” she said with a laugh.

“American Hustle,” which also stars Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner, opened in theaters earlier this month. The film is based on the FBI’s Abscam corruption sting in the late 1970s.
