Muggles tie the knot with ‘Harry Potter’ touches

“I have always been a little different and a lot nerdy, so I had to make sure my wedding was the same,” says Cranston’s Kerri (Solitro). She and Chris Nash chose ‘Harry Potter’ as their wedding theme. Kerri said the couple worked hard to incorporate the theme while maintaining a traditional feel to the wedding.

“I have always been a huge fan of ‘Harry Potter,’ and since Chris chose the Hogwarts castle in Universal Studios to propose to me, I thought it would be an awesome idea to keep the theme going,” said Kerri, who said it wasn’t always easy to have a wedding with such a unique theme. “I didn’t want to come off as tacky with this theme, so I had to find different ways to incorporate the theme in every aspect of the wedding while still trying to remain elegant.”

Kerri explored the ‘Harry Potter’ wedding theme on the internet, which helped her determine what was available when planning the couple’s October 2016 wedding.

“I didn’t want to copy anyone, but I wanted to pull some ideas from others who have had the same theme,” she said. “I also ordered most of the custom items for the centerpieces and guest book as well as other items from Etsy.” Kerri also contacted vendors online to ask if they’d be able to accommodate the ‘Harry Potter’ theme before she visited, which saved time. “It was a struggle” she said, “trying to find vendors that would keep an open mind about my theme and work with me with the intricate details I wanted to have.”

Kerri and Chris were able to incorporate their ‘Harry Potter’ theme into every aspect, including the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception.

“For our ‘Save the Dates’ we used pictures from our ‘Harry Potter’ themed engagement shoot. The invitations were in the form of the Marauders map. My bridal shower theme was ‘From Muggle to Mrs,’ Kerri said. She added that the only thing she kept fairly traditional was the processional music, although they walked back down the aisle, it was to music from the movie ‘Harry Potter.’ During their first steps as husband and wife, everyone raised their wands Kerri and other members of the wedding party made for the day.

The couple continued their theme, having ‘Harry Potter’ touches around every corner at their reception. The tables at the reception were named after different houses.

Toast with ‘Liquid Luck’

The coupled ordered a custom-made ‘Harry Potter’ guest book and had a themed photo booth, complete with props, “Our champagne toast was a custom-made Felix Felicis ‘Liquid Luck’ drink made specially by the bar at the Valley Country Club,” said Kerry. In the series, Harry Potter gave his girlfriend and two best friends a potion called ‘Liquid Luck’ before they faced a fierce battle for control of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Colored uplighting in the room at the reception represented the colors of the houses, and the head table was decorated with all four house colors, two aspects of the wedding that were Chris’s favorites. The tables and bridesmaids’ flowers were top on Kerri’s list.

Even when hidden out of sight, ‘Harry Potter’ was still present.

“My garter had the Deathly Hallows symbol on it and all the groomsmen had specially made cuff-links with the design of their houses on them. I also put green gems on the back of my shoes in order to incorporate my house, which is Slytherin,” she said. The bridesmaids had bouquet holders to match the color of their dresses that featured built-in wand holders.

Both Kerri and Chris found the feedback from their wedding guests to be overwhelmingly positive.

“My family and friends were really surprised with how elegant I managed to make the wedding. I got a lot of strange looks when I told people I was going to have a ‘Harry Potter’ themed wedding, but I think I did a really good job pleasantly surprising my skeptics,” Kerri said. “I got nothing but good remarks from people once everything was said and done, and I’m very pleased with how it all turned out.”
