Mail ballot applications due today at 4 p.m.

Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea is reminding Rhode Islanders they have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, to apply for a mail ballot for the November 8 General Election.

“As a working mom, I have had election days when I’ve had to run from work to be with the kids and then found myself barely able to make it to my polling place in time,” Gorbea said. “Voting by mail helps you plan ahead and not have to choose between voting on Election Day and your busy life.”

Already over 20,000 people have applied for a mail ballot. Eligible voters may download a mail ballot application or contact their local board of canvassers to request one. Completed applications must be returned to their local boards of canvassers by 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 18.

Once eligible voters obtain their mail ballots, they can mark their ballot, complete the oath envelope, and mail or hand deliver their ballot to the State Board of Elections by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

If emergency circumstances arise after the regular mail ballot application deadline, voters can apply for an emergency ballot at their local board of canvassers. Voters can vote with an emergency ballot until 4 p.m. on Monday, November 7.

Voters should contact their local board of canvassers if they need help with voting and/or witnessing their ballot.

For more information about voting by mail or this year’s election, visit sos.ri.gov/elections or call 222-2340.
