Margaret A. (Peggy) Leary McCabe

Margaret A. (Peggy) Leary McCabe, 86, formerly of Warwick and Jamestown, passed peacefully from this world on October 22, 2016 surrounded by her children at the St. Clare Home in Newport. Peggy has gone on to rejoin her beloved husband, John, of 65; her best friend and lifelong companion, he watched over his 'blue eyed bride' until his passing in 2014.

Born on June 1, 1930 in White Plains, NY to the late John C. and Margaret A. (Mars) Leary. Peggy was lovingly known as 'Mama' to her twenty-one grand and nine great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly. She was 'Auntie Peggy' to three generations of nieces and nephews, and 'Ma' to many others who considered her a second mother. Peggy had a talent for sewing and intricate hand quilting as well as a passion for books, poetry, and music. She was an avid reader with a vast vocabulary and wealth of knowledge. A truly gifted listener and trusted confidant, her kitchen table was frequented by any and all who needed a shoulder, an ear, or sound advice over a cup of tea. She had an open door policy; there was always room for one more in the McCabe home, lovingly known as 'McCabe Central Station'.

She is also predeceased by her siblings MaryJane Parrillo and Richard and Robert Leary.

She also rejoins their late sons, Kevin J. and Michael D. McCabe, Sr. (Laura). Peggy is survived by their remaining seven children; John McCabe (Martha) of Austin, TX, Rosemary Geoghegan (Michael) of Warwick, Elizabeth Taylor (John) of Keswick, VA, Kathleen Blank (Michael) of Middletown, Patrick McCabe of Lincoln, Margaret Dobbing (Robert) of Narragansett, and Maura Baudouin (Christopher) of Monroe, CT .

The McCabe family would like to thank the entire staff at the St. Clare Home in Newport for their professional, personalized, and loving care of our dear mother during her stay. We are also grateful for the added support from VNS of Newport and their hospice team.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. Interment will be private. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8pm in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd, North Kingstown.

There will be a celebration of Peggy’s life at a later date.

Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the St. Clare Home-Newport are welcome.
