Margaret Mary “Peg” (Sullivan) McCabe, 85, of Warwick, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Avalon Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Philip J. McCabe.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius J. and Elizabeth A. (O’Sullivan) Sullivan.

Peg graduated in 1946 from St. Patrick’s Academy on Smith Hill in Providence, RI. From there, she was employed at New England Telephone & Telegraph, worked at Ann & Hope and ultimately retired from New England Tel. & Tel. in the late 1980’s. She was a lifetime member of The Telephone Pioneers of America, a member of the Carpenter’s Beach Meadow Community in Matunuck, RI, and member of the Warwick Pilgrim Senior Center.

Peg and her late husband were also very active in the Irish American communities in Providence and Warwick. Growing up, she Irish Step danced, played the piano and the accordion. She won awards for writing and performed in plays at St. Patrick’s Academy. She enjoyed traveling and live entertainment, especially the theater. Her most joyful moments were spent with family and friends at festive events, relaxing at the beach, listening to music, and laughing with her Gaelic group about the good old days.

She leaves her five children, Colleen M. Bernardo, and her husband, Alfred J., of Warwick; Philip J. McCabe, Jr., of Boise, Idaho; Kevin C. McCabe and his companion, Mary Johnston, both of Warwick; Ann P. Brady, and her husband, Christopher D., of Orlando, Florida, and Sheila J. Chase, and her husband, Kevin J., of Warwick; her sister, Patricia J. Gill, of West Warwick; and her six grandchildren, Ashley J. Bernardo, Andrew J. Bernardo, Tara E. Brady, Shane C. Brady, Shailin M. Chase, and Sydney M. Chase. She was the sister of the late E. Evelyn McGovern.

Peg’s family would like to extend their gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Avalon Nursing Home and Beacon Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they provided her. Her endearing Irish smile will forever be with them.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 8:30 a.m., from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Route 117) Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., in Saint Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
