Off to the Olympics
She got a song, but not a sale

Mary Irons, a member of the Rhode Island Special Olympics team that will travel to South Korea in January, found customers at the Hoxsie Dunkin’ Donuts generally supportive of a fundraiser celebrating National Coffee Day this Saturday. With the donation of a dollar, customers got to sign their name to a paper coffee cup that was posted in the store. While Mary’s charms had many donating, 97-year-old John McKeon was an exception. He said he just had enough to buy coffee and a donut, but as a consolation sang a song to Mary and Casie Rhodes, Special Olympics director of sports and training who is pictured with her. Mary is a skier and basketball player. (Warwick Beacon photo)
