Mary V. (Hopkins) Murphy, 94, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016, after a brief illness at Kent Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Murphy, Sr. for 37 years.
Born in Johnston, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Baxter) Hopkins. She was an active parishioner of St. Timothy Church for 65 years, and a volunteer swim aerobics instructor at McDermott Pool, until the time of her death.
Mary was the loving mother of Robert Murphy, Jr., Kevin Murphy (Dona), Maureen Harbour (Robert), Patricia Blasbalg (Mark), Kathleen Sand (Brian), Elaine Murphy, and Christine Ellard (Steven); caring sister of Elizabeth Cummings. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mary was the devoted grandmother of the late Matthew Sand; and sister of the late Henry and James Hopkins.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 9 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Timothy Church, Warwick Ave. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation Monday, 4-7 p.m.
