A Mass of Inauguration is being planned at Saint Kevin Parish on Saturday, January 7 at 4 p.m. in honor of Warwick’s newly elected officials. Mayor Scott Avedisian, along with members of the State Senate, House, City Council and School Committee, will all be honored at the mass.
A reception dinner will follow in Father O’Hara Hall in the church. A $35 donation for the Avedisian Scholarship Fund for Saint Kevin School is requested. Reservations are required by Monday, January 2 by phone at 737-2638 or by email at Secretary
@SaintKevinri.org.
Larger donations are also being accepted for the Scholarship Fund. All donors will be acknowledged at the inauguration banquet. Donation cards will accompany the invitations. This fund, in honor of Mayor Avedisian, was established in order to provide financial aid for students seeking an education at Saint Kevin School.
The dinner will be catered by Sam’s Inn. The restaurant is also a Platinum Sponsor to the Avedisian Scholarship Fund for Saint Kevin School.
Father Robert Marciano of Saint Kevin Parish, who orchestrated the mass, is excited for what he believes will be a successful event.
“The church choir will be present. The mayor has chosen his favorite hymns for the mass, and it will be very festive,” he said.
In a message to the parishioners, Father Marciano said that it is fitting that the mass is taking place on the Feast of Epiphany, as he feels that as the three kings delivering their gifts to the newborn Jesus is synonymous with the newly elected officials using their gifts to serve the public.
Father Marciano also noted that his good friend, Mayor Avedisian, is not a Catholic but rather a devout Anglican who believes in the importance of a religious education.
The mass was first held following Mayor Avedisian’s inaugural two years ago. About 120 people were in attendance, resulting in a total of around $5,000 in donations. The donations went to the school’s playground fund.
Saint Kevin Parish is located at 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick.
