McNulty inks NLI to Providence College

Toll Gate girls’ soccer star Hannah McNulty accomplished everything she set out to accomplish during her high school career. She won a state championship during her junior year – the same season that she led the state with 56 goals en route to being named All-New England and First Team All-State.

All of those feats and accolades paid off in a big way on Wednesday morning in Toll Gate’s gymnasium when McNulty made her verbal commitment to Providence College official with a signing ceremony in front of family, friends and Titans’ head coach Lonna Razza.

After verbally committing to the Friars more than a year ago, McNulty was relieved to validate her decision.

“It’s very exciting,” McNulty said. “I’ve gone to all of [Providence’s] games. I’m just very excited to make it official.”

Although Providence is close by, not many Rhode Islanders have the privilege of donning a black and white Friars’ uniform. For example, PC had just two Rhode Island natives – former La Salle standout Haley Puglia and goalkeeper Makayla Brady from Exeter-West Greenwich – on its roster this past fall.

McNulty recognizes the rarity of her opportunity, and she’s ready to make the most of it.

“It’s amazing,” McNulty said of the opportunity to play at PC. “It’s right in front of me, basically in my backyard. It’s nice that it’s close so my parents will always be there. It’s really just an honor.”

McNulty has been somewhat of an icon for the Toll Gate program in her career.

She certainly had a knack for scoring goals and making the right play to set up her teammates while wearing a Titans’ uniform.

And although McNulty has been the face of the team because of her on-field success, she acknowledged that she wouldn’t be the player she is today without her Toll Gate teammates, who have helped her prepare for the next level over the past four seasons.

“Every day during practice, they were always pushing me to get better and I was always pushing them to get better,” McNulty said of her Toll Gate teammates. “They’ve always been there for me, just helping me improve my game always, all-around.”

McNulty has had the goal of playing Division I soccer for a long time, and now her dream is coming true.

“It always has been (my aspiration),” McNulty quickly responded when asked about her goal of playing at the D-I level.
