Miss RI Italia winners team up for ‘Help Warm the Homeless’

The 2015 Miss Rhode Island Italia Titleholders in six age divisions have come together to create the “Help Warm the Homeless” clothing drive and fundraiser, scheduled for Oct. 1.

The event will be held at DaVinci Restaurant and Lounge (event sponsor) at 146 Acorn St. in Providence from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The titleholders (Ava Jarrett, Giavanna Arakalian, Kristen Martone, Adriana Piccolino, Stephanie Paolissi and Gina Sabatoni Arakalian) are currently collecting raffle items, gift baskets, gift certificates and new and gently used warm clothing items. Money raised will be used to purchase additional winter clothing for those in need.

“I am very proud of our titleholders who have become a ‘pageant family’ this year and want to give back. It’s unbelievable the amount of people, especially children, who are without a hat, gloves or coat during cold weather. In this day and age, when many kids have their own cell phones, Playstations and designer outfits, it’s hard to believe this happens in Rhode Island, but it does, and this event is a wonderful way for our community to give back to those who truly need it,” said Pat Paolino Cruz, Miss Rhode Island Italia organizer.

The Oct. 1 event will include complimentary appetizers, music, raffles and silent auction items and a cash bar. There will be a $10 suggested donation at the door. The titleholders are excited to get the word out about the event, and hope to make it a yearly drive. They ask members of the community to consider participating and donating clothing.

Collected items will be donated to MAE Organization for the Homeless as well as several shelters before cold weather sets in.

A Facebook page has been created for the event, and includes ticket information and a list of drop-off locations. For more information, contact Paolino Cruz at patpaolinocruz@gmail.com.
