The AOA Knitting Club (Active Older Adults), sponsored by the Kent County YMCA of Warwick, recently held its 14th annual Christmas Giveaway at Atria Harborhill in Warwick. The club, started in 2000 by Georgia McDermott, has approximately 25 active members who have been busy in the past year knitting and crocheting 160 large afghans, 68 small afghans, 40 baby blankets, 40 baby sets, 367 pairs of mittens, 374 hats, 41 hat and scarf sets, 97 scarves and 60 knitted bears. All of the handmade items were made for 13 Rhode Island charity organizations: Amos House, Olneyville Food Bank, C.I.T.E, Children’s Friend and Services, EBC House, House of Hope, Kent YMCA, McAuley Ministries, Mission Is Possible, Mother of Life, Project Linus, RI Family Shelter and Rock Ministries. Agency recipients attended the giveaway and enjoyed a buffet before receiving all of their donations. (Photo courtesy of Louise Jarbeau, a member for the past 10 years)
