Myrtle Rita (Gustafson) Idone

Myrtle Rita (Gustafson) Idone, 95, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital on Saturday August 1, 2015.

Myrtle was the daughter of the late William C. Gustafson and Laura F. (Devaney) Gustafson. Myrtle was born on Spooner Ave on May 11, 1920 and was a Greenwood resident her entire life. She graduated from Lockwood High School in 1938 and later received a degree from LaSalle College. As the owner of No Myth, Myrtle was a fierce advocate for her clients while preparing taxes for over 50 years.

She was greatly dedicated to the Democratic Party in Warwick and was a tremendously valued asset to numerous campaigns over the years including her son-in-law and grandson's. During World War II she plowed Victory fields, served as a nurse's aide, as well as supervised an assembly line in order to help the war effort. She served as treasurer of the Rhode Island Towing Association for over 25 years. After she was born and raised on a farm, Myrtle remained an avid gardener her entire life. Myrtle touched the lives of thousands and will always be remembered as the kind and generous person that she was.

She was the beloved mother of her only child Cheryl L. Idone of Warwick. Myrtle was a devoted grandmother of Michael W. Galligan of Cranston, and W. Travis McGowan of Warwick. She is also survived by her only great-grandchild, Macin Galligan. Myrtle was the sister of the late Ethel Stanley, Doris Steinle, and William Gustafson. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Burial will follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
