NYLO hosts hospitality program

NYLO Hotel in Pontiac served as the Rhode Island host to 19 industry professionals from eight countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia as they participated in a three-week technical assistance program to learn about hospitality industry trends in this country.

The Special American Business Internship Training (SABIT) and Hotel Management is designed to train between 18 and 20 Eurasian hotel industry managers and executives. Delegates are screened and selected by the United States Department of Commerce. Participants learn about industry trends, receive assistance in establishing contacts with United States associations and hotel companies for future projects and learn how to improve management and operations of their hotels and their countries’ hospitality sectors in general.

Training topics include customer service, marketing and branding strategies, how to increase sales, staff training, technology, event management and planning, pricing, partnerships with tourism organizations and maintenance and housekeeping.

These SABIT delegates are high-level hotel managers, and some are directors of their countries’ hotel industry associations. Their trip began on June 8 in Washington, D.C. The Rhode Island leg started June 15 and extended through the 19th. They will travel to other select regions across the nation before the program concludes on June 29.

“NYLO has been a great addition to our local and statewide hospitality industry, and I’m sure the SABIT participants will find NYLO’s staff and management team to be extremely helpful as they learn how to improve their own hotels and their country’s tourism economy in general,” Mayor Scott Avedisian said in a statement made prior to their arrival.
