Softball and soccer fields at the new Winslow Park are nearly ready for play although according to contractors it will be at least another month before a traffic light on Airport Road at the road to the maintenance garage – also the entrance to the park – is operational. Relocation of Winslow Park playing fields and the Apponaug Girls Softball League clubhouse is necessitated by the project to extend the airport’s main runway to 8,700 feet. To accommodate the longer runway, Main Avenue will loop around the runway. Roadwork is expected to start this summer, but will not interfere with traffic flow, as it will be done independently of the current road. Above, a crew works on the outfield track of one of the softball fields while below a surveyor takes sights on Airport Road in preparation of the signaled intersection to go there.
