‘Neighborhood kids’ get special visit from Easter Bunny

Posted

It was vintage Tri City Elks, as Lodge 14 opened its Warwick home on 1915 West Shore Road, and heart, for its annual Neighborhood Kids Easter Party.

“We love doing things like this,” Mark Eaton, Lodge 14’s Exalted Ruler, said while putting a freshly-baked pan of macaroni on the long buffet line. “It’s important to give back to the community; but more importantly, to do this for the children!”

Eaton headed the list of a dozen Tri City Elks who made this year’s Easter Party special in a number of ways.

First and foremost, Tri City held its traditional Easter Egg Hunt that featured 400 plastic eggs with taffy and chocolate, small amounts of money ranging from $1 to quarters and each of the children received a prize.

Chairperson Lori Eaton, Mark’s wife, who doubles as Lodge 14’s treasurer, set up a special craft table that featured multi-colored magic markers for the children to use on their already colored hard-boiled eggs.

The Elks provided material for the kids to make elastic bracelets as well as little foam figures to put on their hard-boiled eggs.

And in keeping with tradition, the Easter Bunny made a special appearance and hosted a photo session with many of the children so their parents could take pictures.

“We try to make every party we do special for every child,” Lori said. “We want it to be fun with food, and, of course in this case, candy.”

The food ranged from chicken tenders and French fries, to baked macaroni, hot dogs, and pizza.

“We had homemade cookies and brownies for the kids, too,” Mark said. “And ... we can’t forget the candy!”

Lodge 14 members that helped make the entire party special for the kids, included Ruth Oakes, Linda King, Deb and Noel Petisce, Lori and Mark Eaton, Troy Zwolinski, Jamie and Brian Carrol, AnnMarie Greaves, Bruce Caldwell and Mary Osborne.
