Norman Angus MacLeod, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2015, with his wife Norma A. (Slocum) MacLeod by his side. They had celebrated 59 full and happy years of marriage on April 28th.

A 58 year resident of Warwick, Norman was born in Providence, the son of the late Norman A. and Bertha M. V. (Nelson) MacLeod. Norman was an owner of McLeod Optical Company in Warwick, a family business where he worked for nearly 50 years and rose from delivery boy to president before his retirement. He graduated from Cranston High School in 1948, joined the Navy, later the Army and attended URI prior to his career at McLeod Optical. He had many friends and was very active in the optical industry, serving as a member and past president of the Better Vision Institute and board member of the New England College of Optometry. Along with his career, Norm served the Boy Scouts as past president of the Troop Committee of Troop 1, Gaspee Plateau in Warwick, was on the Board of Directors of the Steere House in Providence, active with the YMCA in Barrington and was a Freemason with the Harmony Lodge No. 9 of Cranston. He was a long time member of the Providence Rotary where he served as president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. Norm also represented the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).

A fitness enthusiast for decades, Norm enjoyed running, bicycling and boating. He rode in support of MS research and in the Flattest Century in the East and ran the Bermuda Half Marathon with his friends from the Barrington YMCA. Norm was an avid traveler and made many wonderful memories and friends as he traveled the world with Norma and his family by foot, car, RV, air and ship.

A loyal, proud and loving husband and father, Norm is survived by Norma and their five children and nine grandchildren. They are Dr. John A. and Kathleen MacLeod (Henry and Abby) of Cranston; Joyce A. MacLeod of Warwick; James P. and Susan MacLeod Nagle (Sarah and Katherine) of Alamo, California; Paul and Laurie A. MacLeod Pirozzi (Emily, Samuel and Max) of Upton, Massachusetts; and, Sandra M. MacLeod (Bryce and Ethan Famiano) of Warwick. He is also survived by his brother, Wallace N. MacLeod of North Kingstown, and predeceased by his younger sister Karol B. MacLeod.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Norman’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian, 805 Main Avenue, Warwick, RI, where Norm was a long time member and Elder. Burial will be private.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful kindness and support given to them by the hospice staff at home and at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center of Providence.
