Out to destroy the GOP

To the Editor:

Trump is still winning a plurality of Republican voters. The reason that Trump is winning a higher percentage of voters is that numerous Democrats registered as Republicans and voted for Trump. In every caucus and primary election, many Democrats voted for Trump.

Trump has bragged about this increase in his support from Democrats. It was reported that 60,000 Democrats in Pennsylvania registered as Republicans. It is obvious that Democrats are not suddenly changing their ideology because of Trump. These Democrats are voting for Trump, whose negatives are the highest in history, to destroy the Republican Party. Trump is not a true conservative and he will not govern as a conservative if elected President of the United States. Democrats should have no say as to who the Republican nominee for President of the United States should be. Reagan Democrats voted in the presidential election, not the primary elections.

Trump received the votes from 13% of Indiana’s registered voters. Indiana voters do not register by party affiliation. They can vote for whomever they want. 7% cast their votes for Hillary and Bernie. 73% of the registered voters did not cast a vote. Trump received most of his votes from his highly motivated TV fans and Democrats. Poor candidates is the main cause of this voter apathy.

As a supporter of " socialist " Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont -who recently had a surprise victory here in the Rhode Island Democratic Party - I can understand Kenneth Berwick 's anxiety about seeing a major political party self-destruct. But I see the big picture as a crisis of the two party system in capitalist America.

I think the Democratic Party is also about to implode. There is no consensus within the party about the virtues of Wall St. and capitalist free enterprise.

One can feel sad about the downfall even of old antagonists. They were still a big part of your life.
