Page inks NLI with Central Connecticut

Pilgrim goalkeeper Hannah Page will be taking her talents to the Constitution State.

Page inked her National Letter of Intent to Central Connecticut State University Wednesday afternoon at Pilgrim, joined by family and girls’ soccer coach Tom Flanders.

A few Division II and III schools, along with D-I St. John’s, showed interest in Page as well. However, she said the environment created by CCSU coaches and players, as well as their quickness in pursuing her, ended up putting the Blue Devils over the top.

“It wasn’t just your typical soccer team,” Page said. “You could tell they’re a team and that’s what I really liked. It’s not some big D-I school where there’s a hundred million people and you’re just another player and they’ll get rid of you if they want. The coaches were really interested and brought me in. The coaches were really the No. 1 thing.”

Page won’t be the only Rhode Islander venturing to CCSU to play women’s soccer in the fall, either. Two of her teammates from Bayside FC will be on the squad as well, Warwick’s Emily Hogan and Cranston’s Anya Bornstein. Hogan played high school soccer at Bishop Feehan, while Bornstein resided at La Salle.

“Me and Emily Hogan have played together since we were 4, like since we could walk,” Page said. “I think we’ll be really great roommates together. And then Anya, we’ve played Bayside for however many years now and I think we will fit in very well with that team and how they work and all that.”

Page and her two Bayside teammates will give the CCSU roster some Rhode Island representation, as the current Blue Devils squad has no one from the Ocean State.

“I love Rhode Island,” Page said with a smile. “So for all three of us to go and represent is great.”

In order to prep for her first fall at CCSU, Page plans on some “hardcore training” during the summer offseason. As a three-sport athlete at Pilgrim, and a one-time state high school soccer champion, the second-team All-Stater is no stranger to hard work.

“Eating right, training hard, it’s gonna have to be an everyday thing,” Page said. “I can’t wait for it to be honest with you. Training’s my favorite thing, so to have to train and to get to the next level; I don’t plan on stopping. I plan on starting my freshman year and nothing but, so I’ll do whatever it takes to.”
