Park Theatre's Super Bowl Party canceled at NFL's request

The planned showing of Sunday’s Super Bowl at the Park Theatre in Cranston has been canceled at the request of the National Football League.

The free festivities, dubbed “Family Fun Night,” were set to begin at 6 p.m. Sunday. The game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks was to be shown on the big screen.

According to a press release, the NFL “has informed the theatre that due to the league’s copyright regulations and their ‘out of home’ viewing policies, it will not be allowed to show Super Bowl XLIX … and must cancel the viewing.”

“The Park Theatre wishes to express a heartfelt apology and disappointment for any inconveniences caused by this unfortunate circumstance,” the release states.

I am glad the NFL is starting to crack down on this type of behavior. I hope that all the bars and restaurants across the country shut the game off too.
