The Bishop Hendricken cross country team finished 14th in the championship event at the Nike Team Cross Country Northeast Regional Qualifier in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. on Saturday.

The Hawks were led by Dom Parlato, who finished 29th in a time of 16:44. Parlato was followed by Tom McMahon in 57th and Tom Grizzetti, who finished in 62nd.

Hendricken also finished second at the qualifier in the open event. Leading the way for the Hawks in that event was Mike Kiernan in fourth place. Jack Rossi followed in 11th place, while Jared Boulanger finished 12th and Jake Cardello and Caleb George placed 32nd and 33rd respectively.

After winning regional titles for both the girls and boys, La Salle continued its dominance on Saturday, as its boys team captured first place, while its girls team placed third overall.

La Salle’s D.J. Principe, of Cranston, was the top R.I. finisher for the boys, placing eighth in a time of 16:17.

Emma McMillan, the Barrington High junior who earlier this month won her third straight R.I. girls’ cross country title, moved into the national spotlight on Saturday by placing third at the Foot Locker Northeast regional qualifying meet, thus earning a spot at the United States Foot Locker Championship, which is set for Dec. 13 at Morley Field in San Diego. This marks the first time in 17 years that a girl from R.I. has qualified for the event. The top 10 finishers in the girls’ and boys’ 3.1-mile at Van Cortland Park in New York made the national cut. McMillan’s time was 17:51.2.
