Party for Planet to celebrate Earth Day at zoo

Posted

In honor of Earth Day, Roger Williams Park Zoo is hosting “Party for the Planet,” a full week of green-themed events to provide lots of fun for families to share. The event, which the zoo describes as “a party as big as the Earth itself,” will run from April 21 through April 25, which is school vacation week for many students in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The emphasis will be on activities, demonstrations and performances kids and their parents will enjoy.

This year’s theme is “Sustainability.” Each day will include environmental education, awareness and suggested action items to help sustain a healthier environment and lifestyle, and more. The goal is to help visitors find useful and doable steps to reduce their carbon footprint and live more “green.”

On Friday, April 25 an environmental fair will serve as the grand finale of the week with environmental organizations from throughout Rhode Island offering displays, activities and giveaways. Plus, a host of activities, performances and demonstrations from earlier in the week will be back to add to the fun.

Party for the Planet activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and are free with zoo admission. For more information about this event visit www.rwpzoo.org.

Roger Williams Park Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from April through September and until 4 p.m. in the off-season. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Admission is $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children (ages 3-12) and $12.95 for seniors (ages 62+); children under 3 and zoo members get in free.
