Patriots outlast Titans for sixth straight win

When they met in September, the Pilgrim and Toll Gate volleyball teams were both looking for their first wins. When they met Friday night at Toll Gate, they were both surging, and the ensuing five-game match reflected that. Pilgrim won the first two games, Toll Gate won the next two, but Pilgrim clinched the match with a marathon 23-21 victory in game five, which extended well past the 15-point mark needed to win.

Colleen Conti had 11 kills while Deveney Dionne added 10 for the Pats, who won for the sixth consecutive time. They’re now 7-3 and in second place in Division II-South. Jamie Hopgood led Toll Gate with 15 kills and 12 digs. The Titans, who started the season 0-6, had won three of their last four before Friday’s match.

Toll Gate visits West Warwick tonight at 6 p.m., while Pilgrim hosts first place East Greenwich, who’s a perfect 11-0. (Warwick Beacon photos by Leo van Dijk / rhodyphoto.com)
