Pats’ Brunelle, Titans’ Jacobsen win events at Schomp Invitational

Pilgrim posted the top team finish among the girls’ outdoor track teams in Warwick with a ninth-place finish at the Schomp Invitational held at Coventry High School on Saturday.

Toll Gate wasn’t far behind with a 12th-place finish, while Warwick Vets placed 22nd.

Pilgrim senior Melanie Brunelle single-handedly led the Pats, winning the high jump, as well as finishing second in the triple jump and fourth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. The Pats’ 4x400 relay team also posted a sixth-place finish for the meet.

The Titans were led by junior Courtney Jacobsen, who was the top finisher in the hammer throw. She was followed by Any Armenakyan, who placed second in the shot put.

Toll Gate sophomore Casey Gannon also posted a pair of sixth-place finishes in the high jump and 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Warwick Vets sophomore Arianna Pafume earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw, as she was the only one to place for the ’Canes.

Hawks take title at Schomp Invitational

The Bishop Hendricken outdoor track team claimed the boys’ title at the Schomp Invitational on Saturday, posting a point total of 86 to edge East Providence by five points.

The Hawks particularly dominated the 3000, placing five runners in the top six. Dom Parlato claimed first, while Avery Ingegneri earned second, Tom McMahon third, Wally Fitzhugh fifth and Grant Gauthier sixth.

Ben Murphy won the high jump for the Hawks, while Bob Merlino placed fifth.

Shane Olson placed sixth in the hammer throw, Chris Storti second in the shot put, Connor Hurst fifth in the shot put, Connor Sheridan sixth in the pole vault, Nick Stravato fifth in the 100, Kwity Paye third in the 200, Harry Antone sixth in the 400, Jared Boulanger fourth in the 800, Pat Hagerty fifth in the 800, Ethan Famiano fourth in the 110-meter intermediate hurdles and Merlino fifth in the 110-meter intermediate hurdles.

Additionally, all three of Hendricken’s relay teams placed. Its 4x100 placed third, 4x400 sixth and 4x800 second.

The only individual to place from the other schools in Warwick was Levi Martin from Vets, who placed second behind Murphy in the high jump.

The Hawks were set to host a dual meet with La Salle, Pilgrim and St. Patrick on Monday, but results were unavailable at press time.
