The Pilgrim boys’ basketball team kept its unblemished record alive after defeating Burrillville in a Division III contest on Tuesday night, 51-35.

The Broncos (6-4) were the fifth straight opponent that the Pats (11-0) have held to fewer than 50 points.

Sophomore forward Tyrone Weeks poured in 24 points for Pilgrim, while sophomore guard Matt Woods added nine.

Next up on the docket for the Pats is a home matchup with Scituate (8-5) on Friday night at 7 p.m.

The Pats currently sit at No. 8 in the state power rankings, and are one game ahead of Johnston (10-1) for the top seed in D-III.

’Canes pick up big win

The Warwick Vets boys’ basketball squad took down Scituate on the road Tuesday night, 51-48, despite 28 points from the Spartans’ Brian Heston.

A balanced scoring attack propelled the ’Canes (4-7) to their crucial victory. Junior guard Jake Gonsalves posted 12 points, while senior forward Jacob Isaac and sophomore guard James Baldwin each had 11.

Next up for the ’Canes is a road duel with Masters (5-7) at 7 p.m. on Friday night. Following that tilt, the ’Canes play three of their last four games at home beginning with sputtering Mount Saint Charles (1-9) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The ’Canes are tied with Paul Cuffee (4-7) for the ninth-best record in Division III. Since 10 teams make the playoffs for D-III, Vets is situated in the postseason picture with five games to go. The next closest team to either the ’Canes or Navigators is Ponaganset (4-9).

Pats fall short against Tigers

The Pilgrim girls’ swimming team lost 49-38 to Tolman at McDermott Pool on Tuesday night despite winning eight of 11 events.

Sophomore Fortune Premy won the 50 free (28.52) and 100 free for the Pats, and sophomore Mackenzie Fraser was victorious in the 100 backstroke and 200 free. Senior Sophia Caracuzzo came out on top in the 100 butterfly and 500 free.

Fraser, Premy, Caracuzzo and sophomore Katherine Richardson won two relays for Pilgrim, the 200 medley and the 400 free.

Pilgrim will look to get back on track against Shea at McDermott at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Hawks glide past Skippers

The Bishop Hendricken swimming team continued its title defense Tuesday with a 78-14 defeat of North Kingstown at McDermott Pool.

The Hawks won all but one event, the 100 breaststroke, en route to the easy win. Sophomore Mike Lupino took home the 50 free, sophomore Dillane Wehbe won the 100 free and senior Gabe Ibarra secured the 100 backstroke.

After Noah Simmons won the 100 breaststroke for the Skippers, the Hawks coasted in the final seven events. Sophomore Lucas Stencel won the 100 butterfly before freshman Paul Fedorenko finished first in the 200 free. Freshman Mike Ryan won the 200 IM and senior Crispin Ferris finished out the individual races with a 500 free victory.

Seniors Marc Andrews and Brendan Crowe, junior Connor Levine and Stencel then worked together to win the 200 free relay. Andrews was also on the 200 medley relay squad, which also featured Maxim Picard, Ryan and Lupino. Ferris, Fedorenko, Ryan and Alex Vessella helped Hendricken also capture the 400 free relay.

Next up for the undefeated Hawks is a meet against Smithfield at Bryant University at 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

Titans get best of Pats in non-league matchup

The Toll Gate girls’ basketball team got revenge on Pilgrim in a non-league battle Monday night at home, besting the Pats 35-30.

Junior center Hannah McNulty once again starred against the Pats, putting up 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four blocks to lead her team over its rival.

Outside of McNulty, Pilgrim (5-4) had the game’s next two leading scorers. Senior guard Hannah Ambrosia had 10 and senior forward Kendra Tantimonico put up nine, but no one else could get going for the Pats.

The Titans (4-7) will get back to league play against Tolman (8-4) on the road at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Pilgrim had a tough road bout scheduled with reigning D-III champion Narragansett (8-2) on Wednesday at 6 p.m., but results were unavailable at press time. The Pats finish out their four-game road trip Friday night at 7 p.m. against Burrillville (5-7).
