Pell Bridge run set Nov. 10, to benefit non-profits

Registration is now open for the second annual Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Thousands of participants are expected to turn out and take advantage of this once yearly opportunity to cross the Newport Pell Bridge on foot. The 4.2-mile run of extraordinary scenic views will begin at 6:30 a.m. near the RITBA headquarters in Jamestown. After crossing the bridge, runners will pass through downtown Newport and cross the finish line at the Newport Yachting Center.

“Before formally opening registration, we had 500 entrants for the event,” said David Darlington, chairman of RITBA. “The success of last year’s race gave us good word of mouth, and we know people are eager to once again experience the incredible view of Narragansett Bay from the bridge that can normally be witnessed only by vehicle.”

“Citizens Bank is proud to again partner with the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority in bringing a healthy, enjoyable experience to runners all over New England,” said Ned Handy, president, Citizens Bank, Rhode Island and Connecticut. “The race will benefit several of our community partners and have an impact long after the last runner has crossed the finish line.”

The title sponsor of the race is Citizens Bank. Proceeds will benefit several not-for-profit organizations throughout Rhode Island.

Additional sponsorship opportunities are available and interested parties should contact Matt Gray at 318-2991 or via e-mail at matt@pellbridgerun.com.

The pre-registration fee is $45 per person and will increase after Aug. 31. Walkers and families are welcome. Go to www.PellBridgeRun.com to register online. Follow race activity on Twitter at @PellBridgeRun and on Facebook.com/PellBridgeRun.
