Players/Calvino Law wins state title

The Players/Calvino Law softball team won the NSA (National Softball Association) state championship (Silver division) last month. This is the franchise’s 18th State Title and seventh NSA championship, as they have won the ISA title in 2001, the ASA championship in 1991,1999, 2000 and 2001 and the USSSA state titles in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005). The team began in 1981 in Warwick’s Twi-lite league, sponsored by the Players Corner Pub and Union Printing (Meridian Printing). Through out the years, sponsors such has Express Sweeping, Beacon Press, Arpin Van lines, Ultra Finishers, Miken, DeMarini Sports, Star Softballs, Rover plus Nine, Calvino Law and Sheahan Printing have helped this team tour 20 states and play in the National Championship tournaments from Kentucky to Nevada, from Florida to Nebraska. Founder and long time coach John Cardullo, who continues as the major fundraiser and general manager of the team today, gave full control to the team to current manager Pat Coupe in 2012. The team has won over 30 League championships, over 20 City championship and over 150 tournament championships. Players/Calvino Law is in its 21st season in the Warwick league and plays primarily in the top league at Clegg field. Throughout the years they played in both Providence and Cranston.
