Pokémon Go Greenway Walk is this Thursday

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) will host a Pokémon Go Walk on Thursday, August 18 at 5 p.m. on the Fred Lippitt Woonasquatucket River Greenway in Providence. Registration for the Pokémon Go Walk will be at the Red Shed Bike Shop, 50 Aleppo St., Riverside Park in Providence. When they begin, participants can challenge the gym at the fish ladder. This easy 1.3 mile family-friendly walk will follow the off-road Greenway to Buttonhole Golf Course, where Palagi’s Ice Cream will serve participants their choice of frozen lemonade or ice cream. Throughout the walk, participants can hatch Pokémon eggs and take pictures of the Pokémon that they’ve caught, of the beautiful natural wildlife, or of themselves and use #WRWCPokemongo.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Pokémon characters. The three most creative costumes will win prizes. After the walk, participants can continue on the Greenway to look for more Pokémon, have a friend pick them up at Buttonhole, or just walk back to Riverside Park. Pokémon Goers should dress appropriately for the walk whether they are wearing a costume or not.

The WRWC requests a donation of $10 for individuals or $20 for families of four or less to get a free treat from Palagi’s and to enter the costume contest.

The WRWC Pokémon Go Walk will help maintain the Greenway and promote its use for people and wildlife alike. Registration will be limited to 100 people.

To register or ask questions, email or call Kim Mailloux at KMailloux@wrwc.org or 861-9046.

For the past few months I have heard a lot of negative comments about Pokemon Go and running after fictional things. The great thing about it is that it gets people moving and interacting with nature and people. If you have younger kids then you must teach them how to be safe but all in all I think this is a great new game that everyone can enjoy.
