NO DOUGH

Officer Kevin McGuire reported going to 3 Royal Ave. in Warwick around 7 p.m. on March 14 for a report of an attempt to evade paying a taxi fare from Logan Airport in Boston. The driver told McGuire the woman had him call her father on the phone, who told him he would be at home with the money for the fare when she got there. He told McGuire there was no one at 3 Royal Ave. when they arrived and the woman said she did not have the money to pay. McGuire said he went inside and spoke with the woman, who repeated that she didn’t have the money and said her husband took all her money and her credit cards and she didn’t mind going to jail for not paying the $201.60 fare. Daneisha Hazard, 43, of 3 Royal Ave., was taken to headquarters, where she was charged with evading a fare and given a summons for District Court.

ASSAULT & BATTERY

A witness to an assault at Picasso’s Pizza on Warwick Avenue on March 12 told police the suspect was bragging about just getting out of prison before he went outside and “sucker punched” another patron having a smoke outside and kicked him when he fell to the ground. A second man who attempted to break up the assault was also punched in the face, possibly breaking his nose. A description of the car the suspect left in was put out and located at the 7-Eleven store at Church and Warwick Avenues. Two witnesses identified John F. Cameron, 20, of 73 Brightside Ave., as the assailant and Cameron was charged with assault and battery and being a probation violator and later transported to Kent Hospital, when he complained he had a heart condition.

COPPER THEFT

An employee of Sprint Communications told police on March 13 that someone got into a small cell site on Electronic Drive in February and took eight to 12 batteries and three nine-pound grounding bars from the site, along with 20 feet of half-inch and quarter-inch copper cable. He said someone who knew the combination to the lock got in and took the copper, estimated to be worth $1,500. No suspects or witnesses.

LARCENIES

A Mac Power Book and a cell phone and other electronics worth about $1,500 went missing from a car parked at the Marriott Courtyard on Jefferson Park Road on March 17. No witnesses.

Two Pro Jack staging pumps worth $200 each went missing from a driveway on Burnett Road on March 14. The owner told police he suspects that metal scrappers driving a maroon truck took the pumps. No other suspects.

HUMMER HARMED

A Warwick man told police he parked his 2003 Hummer H2 in the lot at Workout World on West Shore Road on March 18 and found that someone “keyed” his vehicle from the driver’s side front door all the way back to the rear door. No suspects or witnesses.

HIT AND RUN

Officer Kevin McGuire reported he was dispatched to West Shore Road and Oakland Beach Avenue for a hit and run accident around 6 p.m. on March 10. He said he saw the suspect pickup turn onto Main Avenue at West Shore and followed the pickup as it operated erratically until he caught up with it at Warwick Industrial Drive. He said the driver was disoriented and appeared to be impaired and there was an odor of marijuana in the truck. He said he found no drugs in the car but gave the driver a field sobriety test that yielded no clues. Witnesses arrived to identify the truck and driver as the ones involved in the hit and run on Oakland Beach Avenue. Justin Algiere, 18, of 19 Schilke Dr., Westerly, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, laned roadway violations, not using directionals, no proof of insurance and improper display of plates and released with summonses.

DUI & REFUSAL

Officer Aaron Kay reported he was on a special DUI detail on around 1:10 a.m. on March 18 when he saw a car make an unusually wide turn and drift toward the center yellow lines on Kilvert Street. He said it then signaled it was going to take a left turn into a wooded area that was blocked by solid curbing until it slowly started moving again. He said it indicated it was going to turn several times when there was no place to turn before Kay pulled it over. He said the driver smelled of alcohol and he had slurred speech. He said he asked the driver to take a field sobriety test and he did. Kay said he failed the test and was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. Kay said a passenger in the car got sick and threw up on the sidewalk before he was given a ride home. Branden R. Gomes, 23, of 207 Shamrock Dr. in Warwick, was taken to headquarters, where he registered a .208 and a .223 blood alcohol content on the breath test. He was charged with DUI and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Christopher Cote reported a stopped car on Post Road on March 18 at 2:20 a.m. He found the driver asleep behind the wheel. He said he pulled up behind the car and eventually managed to wake the driver up. He said it took an inordinately long time to convince the driver to put the car in park and shut off the engine. He said the driver smelled moderately of alcohol but appeared to be very confused. He said he told the man his hooded sweatshirt was on backwards and the man told him his friends had made the same observation earlier and informed him. He said the driver failed the field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters, where he refused to take a breath test. He said they found pills in an unlabeled bottle that were identified as two oxycodone tablets and two peach colored hydrocodone pills and one blue pill identified as Viagra. George A. Garcia, 48, of 209 Hyde St., Cranston, was charged with DUI and refusal, no proof of insurance and stopping in the middle of an intersection.

Officer Michael Voyer reported a witness telling dispatch a drunk driver was “all over the road” on Route 2 around 8:45 p.m. on March 13. He said he found the car stopped at an intersection after the light changed and followed it when it turned into the Haxton’s Liquor store parking lot. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol and had several empty “nip” wine bottles in the car. He said he had to hold her to keep her from falling when she got out of the car and she failed every phase of the sobriety test. Cheryl Sepe, 58, of 75 Pheasant Hill Lane in Cranston, was taken to headquarters, where she refused to take a breath test. She was later released with a summons to a sober adult.
