OUT A COMMISSION?

Officer Quentin Tavares reported being dispatched to the Tarbox Big Lot at 870 Quaker Lane around 4:30 p.m. on March 16 for a disturbance. He said he spoke with a man who had a laceration on his forehead. The man told him that he was with a customer when he saw two of his co-workers fighting in one of the offices. He said he went into the office to break up the fight and one of the fighters, identified as Michael Doyle, head-butted him and split his forehead open and said, “That’s what you deserve, bitch.” He said he wanted to press charges against Doyle for the head-butt. Another employee told a similar story of trying to break up the fight and got them apart before police arrived.

Tavares said he then spoke with one of the combatants, identified as Mahmoud Shawish, 49. He said Shawish told him he saw Doyle go in his office and take a financial packet and then return to his own office and Shawish followed Doyle back to his office where Doyle got enraged and started fighting.

Tavares said he then spoke to Doyle who said Shawish followed him back to his office about the financial packet and proceeded to berate Doyle over his religion and made “religious slurs” about Doyle’s faith. Tavares said Doyle claimed Shawish threw a hot coffee at him and punched him in the face and another worker grabbed him while Shawish continued to punch him and that he was defending himself during the assault.

Tavares said he then spoke with the manager of the store who told him he wanted to press charges against both employees for disorderly conduct.

Both men were taken to headquarters where Michael Doyle, 44, of 18 Obeline Dr. in North Smithfield was charged with assault and battery on the man who was head-butted and disorderly conduct for fighting. Mahmoud Shawish, 49, of 20 Amy Ln. in North Attleboro, was charged with disorderly conduct.

SHOPLIFTING

Audrey J. Hudson, 19, was charged with stealing $58.20 worth of cosmetics at the Wal-Mart store on Post Road on March 12. Loss prevention told police they recovered the cosmetics outside the store, after she left without paying for the goods. She was released with a summons.

Christian Diaz, 21, of 16 Africa St. in Providence was charged with stealing an Xbox controller worth $64.99 from the Best Buy store on Universal Boulevard on March 16. He was later released with a summons.

Dat Doeur, 30, of 27 Rounds Ave. in Providence was charged with stealing a UE Boom Box worth $179.99 from Best Buy on March 18. He was processed at headquarters and released with a summons.

Officer Joseph DeDonato reported he was dispatched to Dave’s Marketplace on Airport Road for a shoplifting that just happened around 9 a.m. on March 16. He said he met a manager that said he didn’t want to press charges but did want the man who left the store without paying for two soft drinks warned that he would be arrested for trespassing if he returned to the store. He said he last saw the man near Papa Gino’s. DeDonato said he saw the suspect near the Walgreen’s parking lot. He said the man still had a bottle of soft drink on him that the manager said he took. He said he ran a check on the man and learned he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a trespassing charge in Warwick. Joshua R. Noury, 32, of 120 Putnam St. in Providence was taken to headquarters, processed and transported to District Court. DeDonato said he warned him he would be arrested if he returned to Dave’s Marketplace.

DUI & REFUSALS

Officer Manuel Pacheco said he followed a car that was moving and reacting in a very slow manner on Warner Brook Drive around 7:20 p.m. on March 9. He said he watched as the car ran into a snow bank, backed up, went into another snow bank, got stuck and was spinning the wheels until Pacheco pounded on the window and told him to shut the car off. He said the driver looked dazed and appeared to be intoxicated. He said he found a dry place to conduct a field sobriety test and the driver failed the test. He said he gave the driver a portable breath test and he registered a .226 blood alcohol content. He said Nelson C. Cabral, 64, of 128 Brook Spring Dr. in Warwick was taken to headquarters where he refused to take another breath test. He was charged with DUI and refusal and later released to a sober adult.
