BROKEN WINDSHIELD

Officer Michael Walker responded to the Crowne Plaza hotel at approximately 9:47 a.m. on May 17 for the report of a malicious damage to a vehicle. Walker spoke with the victim, who said she was staying overnight at the Crowne Plaza and when she came out to her rental vehicle, she found the windshield had been smashed. She also pointed out some marks on the right front door that appeared almost as if something was dripping down it, but appeared to have caused some damage to the paint. The woman told Walker she parked the vehicle on May 16 at approximately 9 p.m. under some lights due to the fact there was someone papering a car in the same parking lot. She said she attempted to park away from that location under a light for extra security. Walker said he found out there were two different proms going on at the hotel on May 16. He said he checked with management but learned there are no cameras that reach out to the parking lot area. No suspects.

SMASH N’ GRAB

Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong was dispatched to the YMCA parking lot at 900 Centerville Road at approximately 1:25 p.m. on May 19 in reference to a larceny from a motor vehicle complaint. Chanthaphouvang met with the victim, who said he responded to YMCA around 11:45 a.m. and responded back to his vehicle around 1:20 p.m. and found that the driver’s side window had been smashed out and his iPhone 5 had been stolen. The man said he wishes to press charges against the suspect responsible for the theft of his phone and damage to his truck. Chanthaphouvang said there was no surveillance footage in the area. No witnesses.

MISSING TOOL

Officer Jason Cooke was dispatched to Bakers Creek Road at approximately 4:15 p.m. on May 20 for the report of a larceny. Cooke met with the victim, who said he arrived home that afternoon at approximately 3 and realized his Pro Mark II aluminum sheet metal brake was missing from his driveway, which he placed there on the morning of May 18. He said the tool is used daily for construction, as he is a carpenter and he sometimes leaves it in his driveway. He said the tool is valued at $1,000. The man said the handle for the sheet metal brake was left behind. He described the tool as having orange trim and measuring 18 inches by 8 feet and weighing approximately 80 pounds. The man told Cooke that Wednesday (May 20) is trash day and he believes a local scrapper may have taken the tool. No witnesses.

STOLEN WHEEL

Officer Julio Benros responded to Post Road at approximately 10:55 a.m. on May 21 for the report of a larceny of tires and rims from a motor vehicle. Benros met with the victim, who said the left front wheel was stolen from his vehicle. He said he last saw it mounted on the vehicle on May 20 after 10 p.m., and it was stolen prior to 7 a.m. on May 21. Benros said he observed that the left front wheel was missing and that surveillance at the location did not capture any video images of the larceny. No suspects.

LARCENY

Officer Charles Austin Jr. was dispatched to the Comfort Inn Hotel at 1940 Post Road at approximately 5:11 a.m. on May 21 for the report of a larceny from a vehicle. Austin spoke with the security guard at the hotel, who said while he was on patrol; he observed two vehicles that had smashed out windows. He said he had not yet alerted the owners because he did not know who they were. Austin said he ran checks on one of the vehicles and was able to identify the owner. Upon speaking with her, she told him she parked her car on May 20 at approximately 4 p.m. She said she had belongings of her deceased parents in the car, but the only thing missing was a suitcase with death certificates and the wills of her parents. Austin said entry into the vehicle was gained through the back passenger window. Austin said he was unable to make contact with the owner of the other vehicle, but he left the report number with hotel management, who said when the owner responds to the vehicle, they will contact Warwick Police Department Headquarters. The report was forwarded to Detectives for further investigation.

GPS GONE

Officer Aaron Kay was dispatched to the Comfort Inn at 1940 Post Road at approximately 5:52 p.m. on May 21 for the report of a larceny from a motor vehicle. Kay met with the victim, who said his rental car was broken into the night before. The man showed Kay his rental car and said there was no damage done to the vehicle and that it may have been left unlocked overnight. He said the only item taken was a Garmin GPS unit, which he had rented through the rental car company, National Car Rental, located at T.F. Green Airport. The man said the GPS was in the glove box and that he and his co-workers had last seen the unit on May 20 at approximately 5:30 p.m. He said he discovered it missing at 7 the next morning. The man told Kay an officer was on scene in the area that morning for several other vehicle larcenies. He said the vehicle parked next to his had its window smashed out and there was broken glass on the ground. No suspects.

VEHICLE BREAK-IN

Officer Joshua Myer was dispatched to Holmes Road at approximately 9:51 a.m. on May 21 for the report of a larceny from a motor vehicle. Myer spoke with the victim, who said when she got back from the store around 9:30 p.m. on May 20; she noticed the interior light was on in her vehicle. She said she looked in the car and noticed that everything was thrown around and all the compartments were opened. She also indicated the driver’s side door was not completely shut. Although she realized someone had broken into her vehicle, she said she didn’t call police until the next morning. She told Myer the doors were unlocked. The following items were missing from the car: her husband’s wallet that contained Social Security cards belonging to him and their children, as well as her husband’s birth certificate; and her iPod valued at $150. She said she also thought other personal identification items might have been in the wallet, including work certification IDs, but she was unsure due to the fact it was her husband’s wallet. The case was forwarded to the Detective Division. No suspects.
