STOLEN IPAD

Officer Daniel O’Connell was dispatched to Harmony Court at approximately 9:07 a.m. on July 3 for a malicious damage report. Upon arrival, O’Connell met with the victim. O’Connell said it was determined the incident was a larceny from a vehicle report where the vehicle’s rear tinted defrost window was smashed out to gain access to a white Apple iPad that was stored within that secured vehicle sometime during the overnight hours. According to the victim, his vehicle was secured in the driveway at approximately 9 p.m. on July 2 and upon returning to the vehicle the next morning at approximately 9 a.m., he discovered the rear window smashed out and upon checking the interior of the vehicle, discovered the iPad was stolen. O’Connell said the man was unable to provide a serial number for the iPad. No suspects.

MISSING PROPANE TANK

Officer Mitchell Voyer responded to the area of Union Avenue at Hardwick Street at approximately 10:21 p.m. on July 5 for the report of a possible larceny. Voyer said the caller advised two juvenile males walked into a driveway on Hardwick Street and came out carrying a propane tank where they then walked away. The caller described the subjects as two white males who were approximately 17 years old. The caller stated that one male had a backpack and that the males had been wearing shorts and T-shirts. The males were last seen going toward Union Avenue. Upon arrival, Voyer checked the immediate area with negative results. He then responded to the reporting party’s address on Union Avenue, where he spoke with a woman, who said the two juveniles came out of a residence on Hardwick Street. Voyer said he then reported to that residence and met with a man that took him to the side of his house where he noticed one propane tank was missing and had apparently been stolen. Voyer said he had an additional officer respond to the area and they checked more thoroughly for the subjects, however, they were unable to locate them. He said the man wished to file a complaint. Voyer said he continued to check the area, however no suspects were located. The case was forwarded to the Detective Division.

VANDALISM

Officer Jill Marshall responded to Greenpost Lane on July 5 for a larceny report. Upon arrival, Marshall met with the victim, who said on the morning of July 4, he walked outside and noticed that his front license plate had been vandalized. He said the registration tags, which had been located on the right front bottom corner of the plate, had been cut off. Marshall said she observed there was a clean cut in the plate taking that registration tag off.

MARIJUANA

Officer Gavin McVeigh was at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Warwick Avenue at approximately 5 p.m. on July 6 monitoring traffic at the traffic light when he noticed a vehicle traveling southbound on Warwick Ave., crossing Atlantic Ave. in the left lane, operated by an individual who was not wearing his seatbelt and initiated a motor vehicle enforcement stop on North Country Club Drive for the seatbelt violation. Upon making contact with the operator, McVeigh noted a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. He said the operator was able to produce his registration and proof of insurance, but said while he did have a driver’s license, he could not provide it because he did not have it on him. Due to the marijuana smell, McVeigh said he asked the operator if there was any marijuana in the vehicle, which he said there was and pulled out a clear sandwich bag full of a green leafy substance, which McVeigh said he recognized to be consistent with marijuana.

After securing the bag in his patrol car, McVeigh said he asked the man to step out of the vehicle, as he believed there was more marijuana inside. The man said he did have more marijuana and reached into the center of the dashboard underneath the radio and pulled out another bag, which McVeigh described as a clear Ziplock-style sandwich bag containing a small amount of marijuana. McVeigh then had the man exit the vehicle and he conducted a search of the vehicle, which yielded negative for any other contraband. McVeigh said he had the man get back in the vehicle and he attempted to issue citations to the operator, but because the wire to the printer had been snapped off, rendering the printer inoperable, McVeigh informed Brown he would be mailing him the citations instead.

McVeigh said he then responded to Warwick Police Department Headquarters with the suspected marijuana, where he used a Duquenois-Levine reagent test kit for marijuana, which yielded a positive result. McVeigh then weighed the marijuana, which had a total weight of 13.2 grams. It was then tagged as evidence and placed into the BCI mailbox located on the second floor of police headquarters. McVeigh said he then issued summons to Solomon M. Brown, 18, of 536 Park Avenue, Cranston for No Seat Belt-Operator, with a Warwick Municipal Court date, as well as citations for Possession of Marijuana (1 Ounce or Less), with a court date at the R.I. Traffic Tribunal. McVeigh then completed two letters to Brown, with a copy of the citation, and placed them in an envelope with his address and placed it into Records to be mailed out.
