Upon arrival, DeDonato met with the victim, who indicated that sometime during the overnight hours, his vehicle had been entered and several expired credit cards and a checkbook from Bank of America were taken from his vehicle. The man provided a written statement, which was entered into Records.

DeDonato said two other vehicles in the parking lot were rummaged through, however no items were taken from these vehicles. He said statements from the owners were also entered into Records.

MISSING LAPTOP

On Oct. 16 at 6:50 p.m., Officer Jason Brodeur was dispatched to the Park & Ride at 400 Centerville Road for a report of a larceny from a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Brodeur met with the reporting party, who said she parked her vehicle around 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 and returned the next day to find the trunk of her vehicle wide open.

She said a Tashiba laptop, valued at $1,000, and a Verizon modem, valued at $200, were missing. The woman said she locked the vehicle. Brodeur said there was no evidence on the vehicle that it had been tampered with. The woman provided a written statement.

The case was forwarded to detectives. There were no suspects.

STORAGE UNIT REPORT

On Oct. 16 at 1:18 p.m., Officer Scott Chanthaphouvong was dispatched to Covington Drive in reference to a larceny complaint.

Upon arrival, Chanthaphouvong met with the complainant, who said on Oct. 15 around 1 p.m., he responded to his storage unit at Simply Self Storage, 50 OKeefe Lane, to check on his units. Upon opening the padlocks, he observed the locks were easily opened, however he did not observe any tampering or damage to the locks. After checking the interiors of the units, he discovered they were a mess, with everything out of place and moved around. Upon attempting to retrieve some items, he said someone had stolen about 40 records (valued at $20 each), a pair of copper bookends, four blinds (valued at $80), two pairs of sheer curtains (valued at $15), and two pairs of drapes (valued at $30). He said the items were last seen sometime late last month.

The man said he didn’t have any suspects in mind and he was the only one with the keys. He wanted to have the incident documented in a police report. He also told Chanthaphouvong he put everything back in order prior to leaving.

Chanthaphouvong said the report should be closed due to a lack of a criminal complaint and nothing upon which to follow-up.

SHOPLIFTING

On Oct. 15 at 4:15 p.m., Officer Mitchel Voyer responded to the lobby of Warwick police headquarters for a report of a female in the lobby who said she was turning herself in.

Upon arrival, Voyer met with the woman, who identified herself as Gerardine Coicou, 26, of 9 Denver Ave. in Cranston, and said her friend advised her that her picture was posted on the website Rhode Island Most Wanted. Voyer said he pulled up the website and located her photographs in regard to shopliftings that occurred Sept. 3-4, 2015, at the CVS Pharmacy at 767 Warwick Ave. Coicou said she was the subject in the photos and was at the station to turn herself in.

Voyer said he spoke with the investigating detective and was advised to Mirandize and question Coicou, which he did in an interview room. She told him on Sept. 3, she went into the CVS at 767 Warwick Ave. and took multiple body wash products to sell them. She said she did not pay for the items and left the store with them. She said she found it to be very easy to steal the items, so she returned in the morning to the same CVS and took multiple body wash items, which she remembered to be Dove products, without paying for them and left the store. She told Voyer she sold the items because she was short on money.

She said on Oct. 15, her sister’s boyfriend had seen her on Rhode Island Most Wanted and called her mother, at which point her mother noticed she was on the website and told her she had to go down to the police station. She then drove her to the Warwick Police Department headquarters to turn herself in.

Voyer said Coicou was processed and placed in a holding cell. He said she is a probation violator on a shoplifting charge out of Cranston, for which she received one-year probation and a one-year suspended sentence on Oct. 1, 2015, therefore she would await court in the morning. Coicou is being charged with two counts of misdemeanor shoplifting.
