WHY THEY GET CAUGHT

On Nov. 28 at 1:03 a.m., Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to Motel 6, 20 Jefferson Boulevard, for the report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, Austin met with the Detail Officer, Officer Turcotte, who said the subject he had in custody, identified as Wilson Diaz Morel, 26, of 57 Florence Street, Apt. #FL2, Providence, was outside in the motel parking lot urinating in public. When checks were run on Diaz Morel, Austin said it came back that he had an active bench warrant out of Third District Court.

Diaz Morel was then taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters for printing and processing, where he will remain until the next session of court. The warrant was removed from RILETS.

WILLFUL TRESPASS

On Nov. 30 at 1:41 p.m., Sergeant Boisseau and Officer David Thompson were dispatched to the area of Target at Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, for a subject that mall security was out with who had a previous no trespass order against him for the mall.

Upon arrival, Thompson met with Boisseau and mall security personnel. Thompson said security was called by American Eagle on a subject that was possibly trying to shoplift. Mall security began following the individuals, one of which, later identified to be Jose Morel, 22, of 194 Galo Street, Providence, turned to look back and was recognized as a person who was no trespassed from the mall in October of 2015. At the time, security stopped the individuals to speak with them and contacted Warwick Police.

During the investigation, Sergeant Boisseau pulled up a picture that Warwick Police had on file of Jose Morel and positively identified him. When officers checked Jose Morel through NCIC, it was found that he also had a failure to appear warrant out of Third District Court. At that time, Morel was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police Department headquarters, where he was held for the next session of Third District Court.

Thompson said he received a written statement from mall security, indicating personnel recognized Jose Morel, who had a no trespass order against him issued in October of 2015, and they wished to press charges. Thompson said the failure to appear warrant was a hold without bail warrant. The warrant was removed from the system. While at headquarters, Morel was charged with Willful Trespass.

CONSPIRACY

On Nov. 27 at 3:26 a.m., Officer Manuel Pacheco and Officer Javier Cabreja were dispatched to Wal-Mart, 650 Bald Hill Road, for the report of two subjects shoplifting.

Upon arrival, officers met with Officer Kevin McGuire and Officer Jacob Elderkin, who assisted Wal-Mart Loss Prevention in detaining two subjects that were observed shoplifting. A loss prevention associate said he witnessed Jayvon Dovidio, 20, of 195 Urban Avenue, Apt. #1FL, North Providence, and another subject enter the Electronics Department and look around the store suspiciously as they selected a video game, then headed toward the Infants Department, where the game was taken out of the packaging and concealed it in the other subject’s hoodie pocket. The subject then met with Dovidio and proceeded back to the video game aisle, where Dovidio selected another game and attempted to take it out of the packaging but failed and gave it to the other subject, who then opened it in the Stationary Department and concealed it in his hoodie. Dovidio then selected a third game and headed toward the Women’s Department, where he gave the game to the other subject, who opened the packaging and concealed that game as well. Both subjects then made their way to the Lawn & Garden Department registers, where they met their mother and headed to the exit, passing the last point of sale and failing to pay for the concealed merchandise. Once outside, the subjects were approached by loss prevention and Warwick Police and asked to return inside, where the merchandise was recovered, worth a total value of $65. Cabreja said Wal-Mart wished to press charges, and said it should be noted both subjects were No-Trespassed from Wal-Mart.

Both subjects were fingerprinted and processed. Jayvon Dovidio was charged with Misdemeanor Conspiracy and issued a Third District Court summons. Both subjects were released to the custody of their mother.
