ARREST ENDS

ONE-MAN CRIME SPREE

On March 9, police responded to a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot of Veterans Memorial High School on West Shore Road. That’s when police encountered Bryon Marine, 24, of Providence, who was found to be rummaging through several cars in the student parking area. Based on the investigation at the school, Marine was found to be in possession of several items taken from numerous vehicles, to include electronics, charging cords, sporting equipment, cash, loose change, a GPS, and clothing. Marine drove to the school in a Nissan Maxima, which was eventually found to be reported stolen in Providence earlier that week.

Marine was also arrested by Warwick police on March 1 while he was in the area of Palace Avenue and found to be in possession of a different stolen motor vehicle. This time, the 2013 Kia Soul was reported stolen earlier in the week by a Warwick resident who was the victim of a house break. Apparently, the keys for this vehicle were stolen during the house break. Based on this investigation, Marine was also tied to and charged with that house break, which occurred on Smith Street in Warwick on Feb. 29.

Based on this one-week span of criminal activity, Marine was charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and two counts of possessing a stolen motor vehicle, and is currently being held at the ACI.

OBTAINING MONEY

UNDER FALSE PRETENSES

On March 5 at 4:30 p.m., Officer Charles Austin was dispatched to JC Penney for a report of a shoplifting. While en route, Dispatch advised there an adult male and female were in custody for shoplifting.

Upon arrival, Austin spoke to a loss prevention associate, who said at 3:56 p.m. an adult male, later identified as Carlos Rinn, 32, of Warwick, and an adult female, later identified as Gina Bernardo, 30, of Warwick, entered JC Penney. Bernardo then selected several items, including a Batman V-neck T-shirt, gray jogger pants, and several pieces of jewelry. The couple then got on an escalator and went up to the second floor, where they got in line at a register in the children’s department and attempted to return items from a pink bag that Rinn was carrying. They were offered 97 cents for those items but declined to take the money. They then attempted to return the Batman shirt, jogger pants, and two pieces of jewelry that they had selected downstairs. The associate processed the return and issued them a JC Penney gift card valued at $50.15. The return was put under Rinn’s name due to the fact he was the only one with an ID. After receiving the gift card, both subjects left the store. They were stopped shortly after by loss prevention and escorted back inside the store.

Officer Major then responded to the location to assist in transporting Rinn to Warwick Police headquarters. Handcuffs were placed on both Rinn and Bernardo, who were transported separately to police headquarters, where they were each printed and processed.

Both individuals were charged with obtaining money under false pretenses and conspiracy to obtain money under false pretenses and were released with a Third District Court summons. All items were returned to JC Penney without damage. The gift card was also returned.

LARCENIES

On March 13 at 10:12 a.m., Officer Michael Walker met with a man in the front lobby of Warwick police headquarters regarding a larceny from his vehicle.

The man told Walker he responded out to his vehicle earlier that day at 8 a.m. and found that it had been gone through. He said the vehicle was unlocked and he determined the following items were missing: one Nite Core P12 flashlight valued at $75; one old GPS unit (unknown make) valued at roughly $50; one Cold Steele machete valued at $20; one small emergency shovel valued at $60; one SOG Seal Pup knife valued at $60; one pair of Bushnell binoculars valued at $60; and one R.I. driver’s license.

The man said he located the shovel as he walked through the neighborhood. He told Officer Walker his vehicle was parked in his driveway on Chapel Street in Warwick and that the above items had been in the vehicle when he parked it around 6 p.m. He said he wishes to press charges if the suspect is caught.

On March 13 at 11:10 a.m., Walker responded to the Royal Crest Apartments on Cedar Pond Drive for the report of a larceny from a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Walker spoke with a woman, who said she came out to her vehicle at 9 a.m. and found her car door open. Upon closer inspection, she discovered her vehicle had been rummaged through and that her Tom Tom GPS valued at about $200 was missing, along with some unspecified physical therapy tools and some paperwork.

She said her vehicle was locked the prior night at 5 p.m. She said she would press charges if a suspect is caught. There was no serial number provided for the GPS at the time of the report.

DUI & REFUSAL

On March 4 at 3:31 a.m., Officers Chris Fernandes and Javier Cabreja were dispatched to the area of White and Hardwick avenues for a report of a male subject that was inside his pickup truck for approximately two hours parked at the intersection. While en route, Dispatch advised the male subject fell out of the truck and was now crawling back inside the vehicle, which was half on the roadway and half on the lawn of a residence on Hardwick Avenue.

Upon arrival, Cabreja said he witnessed a gray Dodge pickup truck parked offset with half on the road and half off the road, with the engine still on. He said he saw a male, later identified as Derrik A. LeBlanc, 35, of Warwick, struggle as he was attempting to stand up while holding on the rear driver’s side door. LeBlanc was advised to sit on the lawn, but he disregarded the command and attempted to get back in the driver’s seat. After he sat down, he attempted to shut the door, but Cabreja stopped him from shutting the door and removed him from the vehicle by his shirt and escorted him outside.

Rescue arrived shortly after and LeBlanc was sat down on a gurney. He said he was the sole occupant and he had consumed an alcoholic beverage. Cabreja said LeBlanc had a minor scrape on the right side of his face. Due to LeBlanc not being able to stand up and with his motor skills being deteriorated, while in the rear of the rescue a standardized field sobriety test was conducted, which LeBlanc failed.

Upon arrival to Kent Hospital, LeBlanc was escorted to Care Team 2, where Kent staff immediately began to assist him. After medical attention was provided, LeBlanc refused to take the chemical test. He remained at Kent for further medical evaluation. LeBlanc was later transported to Warwick police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, processed and placed in a cell. At the time of his arrest, LeBlanc had $8,220 in cash on him, which he said was due to selling a motorcycle earlier that day.

LeBlanc was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (first offense, BAC unknown) with a Third District Court date; refusal to submit to a chemical test (first offense); and places where parking/stopping prohibited. LeBlanc was released to his wife.

It's BRYAN Marine, of 15 Applegate Lane Apt.3 in Providence. Mr. Marine has no record prior to this, illustrating how inept he is at being a criminal- what idiot drives a stolen vehicle around the community he jacked it from, knowing the police will have an ATL out on it? Another career fast food preparation specialist in training. Let's hope he found Warwick inhospitable enough to stay in Providence.
