VANDALISM

On July 10 at 10:30 a.m., Officer Derek Mourato was dispatched to Edmond Drive for the report of vandalism to a garage door light.

Upon arrival, Mourato met with a woman, who said she woke up that day and noticed the light was broken on her garage door. There was glass shattered in the driveway. She said her vehicle had been rummaged through and items that were in the back seat were found in the front, but nothing was missing.

She said the light was on the night of July 9 before she went to bed and it was operating and functional. If someone was caught, she said she would press charges.

STOLEN VEHICLE

RECOVERED

On July 3 at 7:36 p.m., Officer Sokphannareth Chea was dispatched to the Macy’s parking lot at 400 Bald Hill Road for a suspicious vehicle. The reporting party drove by and saw that the window was smashed.

Upon arrival, Chea located the vehicle, described as a black 2006 Volkswagen Passat with Illinois registration, and saw that the driver side window was smashed in. A VIN check with Dispatch revealed the vehicle was stolen out of Providence and had been entered in the system as stolen on July 2. After requesting Dispatch to send a message to the Providence Police Department advising the vehicle had been located and to see how they should proceed, it was confirmed the vehicle would be towed and Warwick would notify Providence of the location of the tow.

Prior to the tow, Chea conducted a motor vehicle inventory search of the vehicle and found a silver iPad 16 GB, a Garmin GPS, an Acura car key, a pen, and a hackeysack. The iPad and GPS were secured in the glove compartment. Scorpio Towing responded to tow the vehicle and they were informed of the inventory search and that the vehicle was stolen out of Providence and that Providence Police had been notified.

Chea said Providence Police detectives advised they would not come out to process the vehicle.

SHOPLIFTING

On July 7 at 2:30 p.m., Officer Darren Parrillo was dispatched to the Nordstrom Rack at the Warwick Mall, 400 Bald Hill Road, in reference to an adult female in custody for shoplifting.

Upon arrival, Parrillo met with a loss prevention agent, who said she observed a female subject, later identified as Stephanie M. Polce, 36, of 3 Linwood Avenue, Providence, enter the Accessories department, where she selected three necklaces, three rings, and a handful of bracelets and concealed the items inside a jacket she was carrying. She later exited the store, passing all points of sale and made no attempt to pay for the merchandise. She was then confronted by loss prevention and escorted back inside to the loss prevention office, where 62 items were recovered, totaling $1,353.14.

Polce was arrested and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where she was processed and held pending arrival of the bail commissioner due to police having a warrant for Failure to Appear for Arraignment on a charge of Driving with a Suspended License. Polce was charged with one count of misdemeanor shoplifting.

DUI & REFUSAL

On July 3 at 7:36 p.m., Officer Ryan Lancaster responded to the area of 495 Oakland Beach Avenue for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, he found a red Suzuki motorcycle facing southbound on Oakland Beach Ave., in the shoulder. He said the front end of the motorcycle was covered in blood. Warwick Fire Department Rescue 3 was on scene. Inside the ambulance, he found Ludovino Medeiros, 37, of 64 Pearl Avenue, Warwick, who was on a stretcher in the care of rescue staff.

Lancaster said Medeiros was bleeding from his left arm, which had been bandaged by rescue personnel. Lancaster noticed his eyes were bloodshot and he had slurred speech. Medeiros said he was the operator of the motorcycle. He said it belonged to his uncle and had taken it for a ride, during which he hit some sand and lost control of the motorcycle. When asked if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages that day, Medeiros first said he had two beers, then changed his statement to say he had two twisted teas, then changed it again to say he had one beer and one twisted tea. He said his last consumption of an alcoholic beverage had been at 1:45 p.m. that day.

Medeiros refused to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Rescue then transported him to Kent Hospital for further treatment of his arm. Once his evaluation was completed, Medeiros was asked if he would submit to a chemical test, to which he also refused.

After speaking with Sergeant Valliere, who responded to the hospital, Lancaster was advised Medeiros was eligible to be released with a summons at the hospital. He was charged with one count of DUI first offense – B.A.C. unknown and one count of refusal to submit to chemical test first offense, both with a mandatory court date at Third District Court. Medeiros was then released of custody and left to the care of hospital staff.
